I hate my apartment here being 'clinical' - it's 'home' for me, so I like it to be as warm & comfy as possible. On my last trip back to the UK I got a throw / blanket from a National Trust place, so I assume the sheep wasn't abused or tortured while it was being stripped of it's wool by a fat, smelly man with a huge shaver shouting "Keep still yer fooking bastard animarl!!"
I wanted some cushions (I can't believe I'm writing about bloody CUSHIONS!) and went to the market close to where I live - found a fab place and after I chose some material, the lovely lady there made me two covers for a fiver, and made them in 15 minutes - she was a demon at the sewing machine.
However, I'm 'advised' that one should never 'mix' checks (ie the throw & covers are different)...also, I need more than two cushions and I should have some plain ones too. Jesus, I'm a bloke on his tod in Beijing not Laurence Llewelyn Bowen in Knightsbridge!! And any woman giving me such advice needs to get her ass into my apartment & have one of the cushions under it!!*
Also bought a new beard / trendy-stubble trimmer, for a magnificent six quid, to replace the previous one that cost six quid and packed up after 3 months - possibly because it was only six quid!!!The man in the shop (who started at twenty quid, and although spoke no English, clearly understood "You're taking the f*cking pi$$? I LIVE here, I'm NOT a tourist!", which is a standard response when they try to rip us off) - he tried to make out I'd soon look as good as the bloke on the box - who looked remarkably like the bloke on the box on the old one, when I compared them. Funny though, one is made by 'Dearlin', the other by 'Dingling' - I assume the male model in the photo is the office tea-boy or photographer's assistant. He certainly doesn't look like me. Luck sod...
Usual visit to Sanlitun on Saturday resulted in the inevitable 6 DVD purchases...currently watching the 'Before sunset / Before sunrise / Before midnight' set - 3 films made from 1994 to the latest ('Midnight') which follows the story of a couple who - after a chance meeting & one night together in France in 1994 - meet up nine years later...and then 9 years later. Yup, dead romantic, but unless you're a total oaf, good stuff. I'm 2/3 through, and looking forward to watching the latest one later in the week. Yeah, yeah, on my cushions, on my own...
Also bought the new John Mayer CD, 'Paradise Valley' - I've got into him recently, and although he's turned a tad 'country' with his newest (and looks a right cock on the cover)there's some good stuff in there, most notably 'Who you love' with Katy Perry. I think he's shagged her. He's shagged a lot of nice women. Maybe it's because he's a rock star?
Bet his cushions match...
*Crude & cheap gag
