Woke up this morning and eventually got out of bed....I NEVER have a hangover, but just didn't feel motivated....
It was sunny (but smoggy) and VERY cold, so popped into the office and then walked to Sanlitun. Walking along the river is either a favourite time or depressing - depending on my mood - a bit like walking through the trees outside my apartment. Anyway, it was still frozen solid, but some crazy guys were walking (or cycling) casually across the ice to the middle, and hacking holes in the ice - seriously, several guys going at it hammer & tongue - and I expected them to all disappear into the frozen water at any point. There were loads of holes, and people stood around them or sat on chairs, fishing through the holes....insane.....look closely at the photo to spot the loonies...
I had a sit down, alone with my thoughts...
Went onto Sanlitun, into the fake market and then the dodgy DVD shop - got the new James Bond film, 'Taken 2' (which I've just watched) and the new Hitchcock biopic. All perfect quality, and £1 each. Best part about China...
Walked back & stright to the bar to see a pal ("If you come here, I know you won't have thrown yourself in the river") - he didn't know that - had I tried to jump off the bridge, I'd have bloody bounced on the ice & broke my head, but survived to get the kiss of life from a spitting local....
I wanted something warm, but alcoholic, and the guy tried to make his own version of a Hot Toddy - why do Americans have to tinker with tradition? - he insisted that whisky, hot water, honey, lemon & sugar was too tame & added assorted booze (certainly burbon that I saw)....it wasn't bad, if weak (too much water)....he only charged me £2 so I'm going back in a bit to get him to have another go...
I'm still new-apartment hunting, which is depressing....oh, and this week's column in 'The Chron' was censored & butchered to death by the editor. I hate him.
Sorry....do I sound miserable?
I'll have a poo then go for that Hot Toddy....there's your answer.
