A hot Saturday in Beijing...

Well...sort of...

Up early today...I don't know why...I just can't sleep these days, particularly on Friday & Saturday nights, but by 6.30am I'd got the washer on and was catching up writing DVD reviews for 'The Chron' - 5 done by 11, along with the ironing. Sad, but I get a weird satisfaction from things being 'just so'.
Off to Sanlitun to the 'fake' market to buy some watches & headphones for a chum who hates all the grubby bartering, so let me do his dirty work, then - inevitably - more DVD's, including 'The Iron Lady' : I thought it was time I watched it, having avoided when it came out. Playing another Queen concert as I type this - an older one, with Freddie...I just looked up at one point and thought "They were SHIT hot then" - I must remember that quote for the review!!
Highlight of the day will be the TWO pies I had for lunch (both with mash, peas & gravy & a bottle of cider!) - one isn't quite enough, although I confess to feeling just a tad greedy having two lined up. Talk about comfort eating & drowning your sorrows at the same time!
Walking back, it was VERY hot, 77 degrees according to the Batphone and I sat by the river - my favourite spot - and quietly contemplated life, looking at my phone and thinking about things 5,037 miles away, peacefully sleeping...
Talking of which, there was a guy snoring away on his cart which sort of sums life here up in the split second it took to take the photo...
As I got close to home, walking very slowly, it has to be said, I passed 'Lady Street' in all it's colourful 'character' (note the beggar) and the security guard protecting my apartment block - I'm close to the American Embassy, so he's particularly vigilant today, as you can see, watching out for Dosmestos bombs lobbed over from North Korea...
And after finishing this, I've a pile more reviews to do. That's my plan for Saturday night. Thrilling eh?
Just looked up again - Freddie's tearing out 60,000 hearts with 'Love of my life'.
I miss you, Freddie...
